I never thought of it this way- it actually makes some sense:

DADT is basically like telling minorities that they can serve in the military only if they constantly wear white make up . Your asking gays to be something they arent

I already said this in a previous thread - It isn't about homosexuals in the military. When we think about it for people in the military it is kind of like being in any other professional endeavor. (*If you discount the whole 24/7 @ work, and the real possibility that you could be asked to go to some foreign land and be a target, thing...).
Why would gays in the military be any different than gays working at IBM, or on the Ford motor assembly line? Gay - straight there probably isn't much of a chance of a gay worker grabbing someone of the same sex and going at it right there in the office or on the assembly line any more than there is a chance of the straight person doing the same, is there? This seems to all be about recognition in some form or another, recognition of an individual for their departure from the mainstream, recognition of a group for the number of members... but something completely divorced of why people claim they were seeking the acceptance or exclusion for that matter, (IMO). |

Basically, it says that the military is either 'affirms' activities or 'bans' them, but it isn't neutral on anything, from hair length to tattoos. What DADT was working to achieve was a neutral position on homosexuality- neither endorsing nor banning homosexuals from serving in the military. Once the military is forced to actively endorse the homosexual lifestyle, it has to find ways to punish those who don't actively endorse it as well. If a gay person, while having their lifestyle actively endorsed by the military, feels remotely offended by someone that they suspect does not endorse their lifestyle- it can get a little messy... That is part of the problem that the article gets into...

![]() No, Pyro- it really isn't. As much as lefties want to, you can NOT compare the plight of blacks to the trials of homosexuals. A black person is black, in every situation they are black, and EVERYONE knows they are black. If you are black, no matter what you say or do- people will judge you by your skin color. You are black, and there is nothing you can do to be portrayed as anything but a black guy/gal. IF you happen to be gay, the only way anyone would know about your lifestyle would be for you to actively TELL people about your sex life. If you are gay and you don't tell everyone, no one would know/care. It doesn't really matter if you like to have sex with men, women, or both- no one would be the wiser unless you broadcast it to everyone or strike up relationships with your co-workers. No such requirement is necessary for people to figure out a black man is black... For love of Pete, being black and being homosexual are NOTHING alike...

Maybe they should change the policy so NO ONE is allowed to talk about their sex life- be it gay, straight, polygamist, WHATEVER... Why is it anyone needs to declare their sexuality, anyway? I don't go around declaring my sexuality, or my 'type', or my favorite body part.... Why the need?

No one HAS to deal with anyone else's sexuality. But if you think the subject doesn't come up in a military setting with young men and women then your head is in the sand, not under the rug or sheets. No, there is no need for it. But why would it be ok for a straight person to casually talk about their sex life but not a gay person?

You see if you knew very much about Black history , you know that many " High yellers" did serve in the military as whites until their secret was discovered . at which point they were kicked out . This is exactly what the military has done to gays that dared to come out publicly. BTW what is it like to be black and a homosexual?? Or for that matter whats it like to be black in the military, or even in the military???? you wouldnt know would you . The only reason for keeping the DADT is so a bunch of homophobics with latent homosexual tendencies from having the sexual preferences questioned .
