Generally, yes- though it may be cheaper to get a DVR unit and pay the extra 5 or so bucks a month if you record a LOT of stuff. The DVD's can end up costing you more than the DVR service when you start adding up the costs. If you only want to catch a show here or there, the DVD burner is definitely the cheaper option (IMO)...

Also, If DVD burning is for you, it is possible to even capture HD content using some of the DVD recorders (burners) but it will down-convert the image into SD quality. Still, pretty good quality images and you won't know the difference...
