Good job KsKrista! Mothers need to support each other like this.

I've said it on here multiple times. It is entirely possible to be a single mother working full time and qualify (and very much need) food stamps. I was in that situation myself when I worked full time at Names and Numbers. Now, are you going to blame the mother doing whatever it takes to keep her kid fed, or are you going to blame the company that does not pay their employees enough to BUY FOOD yet the owners can build a 30 million dollar mansion?

You have no idea a persons situation. Maybe that mother was a college student in school and working too, trying to make her life better so she could be OFF food stamps for the rest of her life.

Maybe she was in her student teaching semester, during which you are not allowed to work a job and you are not paid for working in the schools full time. This is another situation I have been in myself.

Now if anyone would like to direct their disparaging comments towards me, go ahead. I dare ya.

Plain and simple there are those that need and deserve help and dont get it. There are those that get help and shouldnt be getting it. The system stinks and is completely unfair. I have a aquaintance who lied to get it saying her husband had moved out just to get more help.. That is what ticks me off.

I grew up with my grandparents who were stuck with three little kids and couldnt get help because they made to much money. Seems silly but it happens all the time, happened then(27 years ago, and is much worse now) You almost have to lie, cheat or steal to get help..

I applaud those that tried to help themselves and couldnt and needed help and got it. Nothing wrong with working hard and still needing to some help. We all need help sometimes.

Yes, I know someone who does that too, I think it's terrible. I'm not saying everyone who gets help deserves it. I'm saying that standing in a grocery line and giving dirty looks or mean comments doesn't do anything but prove you are a miserable human being. Why shatter someones confidence when you presumably would want them to pull themselves up?

If the "jerk" was indeed a 'college kid', you might have fired back with;

"...and just who is paying for your college education Mr. Know It All? If this is about investment and returns, I can see that my tax money is going to this lady to buy food and take care of her children.

As for my return for the tax money I pay to keep neandrathals like you in school, I might be inclined to think that what ever efforts they are making to give you a well rounded education and instill a modicum of social grace might be all but wasted."

It's getting to the point where people, (myself included it seems) are really quick to pass judgment without knowing all the facts for something they choose to comment on. I guess the "You can't judge a book by it's cover," adage isn't something people hear regularly in school or in life for that matter.

A married couple in Pittsburg Kansas who has the misfortune of having three or (god forbid four kids) can both work and qualify for assistance. That's how low wages are here. Nobody should try to raise kids without health insurance or a medical card.

I don't know about anyone else, but, when I'm in a grocery line the last thing I'm concerned with is looking at what is in another persons cart or how they are paying. Usually I'm just wanting to get out of there as quickly as possible. If I did see then pay with a vision card (which I have no idea what it looks like) I wouldn't call them out on it because I would have no idea what-so-ever what their circumstances were. And if their children are with them that would be even worse. Whatever the circumstances are is not their fault.

If the guys were "college kids" the majority of them think they are above most people. I see that everyday, they are in school, someone else is paying for their education and for some reason that means (they think) they are entitled to more than the average person.
Im not saying all of them, I work with some college kids that are great, but quite a few of them act better than everyone else.

I knew a lady many years ago that was preg with her 3rd child. Her and her husband both had full time jobs. Buying their house and had newer vehicles. Soon after she had found out she was preg her hubby left her. Then when she was about 6 months along she had to be bed ridden from stress and high blood pressure. She went to ask for assistance because she couldnt get unemployment. I think she was only going for food stamps. They denied her because her van was "to new". WTF! (Her hubby wasnt helping her). Family Service gave her the number to the local food bank. When someone needs help...its hard to get it. I try never to look down on anyone but I am guilty. But it can happen to ANYONE.

When I am in line I could care less if they have a vision card to pay, especially when kids are involved. It's unfortunate the system gets abused, but I am glad it's there for the people who truly needs it. I really don't know the circumstances why they are getting assistance, nor is it any of my business.

Your right!! It can happen to anyone, it doesnt matter how good you think you have it or how "it could never happen to me". There are a lot of people out there right now who had it all and are left with nothing!
